Melissa began CrossFit in 2008 in order to supplement her Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) training and improve her overall level of fitness. She recognizes the importance of a strong strength and conditioning program for athletes and attributes her three International BJJ medals to the effectiveness of CrossFit’s high-intensity training program.
Melissa realized instantly that training others was her passion, and in August of 2008, she obtained her Level I CrossFit Trainers Course. By November of that same year, Melissa made the decision to part from her nine-year career as an executive protection agent so that she could greater serve others by coaching full-time.
Since then, she has not looked back and has gone on to complete the following courses:
- CrossFit Level 2
- CrossFit Weightlifting Trainers Course
- CrossFit Endurance
- CrossFit Basic Barbell with Mark Rippetoe
- CrossFit Goal Setting Trainer Course
- Takano Athletics Weightlifting Seminar
- Mike Polifko Gymnastics Clinic
Melissa is also currently pursuing a degree in exercise science.
Being both a coach and an athlete has given Melissa a broad understanding of the challenging balance between fitness and competition. Throughout her coaching career, Melissa competed in several CrossFit competitions including three consecutive years on the Regional Team from 2011-2013.
Melissa understands that athletes have their own unique reasons for seeking out CrossFit, and she finds few things as rewarding as helping those individuals to achieve their personal goals. Whether it is the desire to get their first pull up, reach a weight-loss goal, get a personal record on a lift, or just have an outlet for daily stressors, each athletes goal’s are equally important.
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.”- Aristotle
