Scott Porter
Scott was born and raised in Alexandria, and cut his teeth (athletically speaking) on the fields of Alexandria Little League Baseball and the Alexandria Soccer Association. He played baseball and basketball at Alexandria City High School (formerly T.C. Williams), but his 6 total points for the season in JV basketball somehow didn’t make it into the movie “Remember the Titans.” At JMU, due in no small part to the very good dining hall there, Scott began lifting weights and running on a regular basis–two things he has continued to do throughout his life.
Scott continues to run in road races and has completed several fitness-related competitions, including several half-marathons, numerous 10k’s, and probably over 20 Alexandria Turkey Trots. Scott comes from a family of educators, and teaching runs in his blood. He enjoys being able to help people achieve their fitness goals-whatever those may be, and more selfishly likes bringing out his inner-DJ by controlling the music during classes. Scott lives in Del Ray with his wife Laura, who is also a member at MVA. When not at MVA you can find Scott traveling, eating at one of the neighborhood restaurants, or running on one of his “off” days from the gym.
